It is a common, if uncomfortable, reality that safety professionals are often viewed with scepticism by operations teams. In many cases, this is not unjustified.

A recurring issue is the lack of credibility some safety personnel face on site, often because they do not have the soft skills required to build trust, influence behaviour, and engage meaningfully.

This contributes to a "them and us" dynamic between safety and operations. Rather than working collaboratively to identify and address hazards, both groups become distracted by their differences, resulting in a culture that reduces efficiency and increases risk.
