Britons will be urged to keep bottled water and tinned food at home as the government steps up preparations for major emergencies, the Financial Times reports.
Ministers are accelerating work on the government’s “war book” amid concerns over Russian threats and cyber attacks on critical infrastructure.
A public information campaign will also advise households how to prepare for disruption caused by hostile states, extreme weather or cyber incidents.
One government official told the FT: “There will be practical advice on things you can do to improve domestic resilience, like having some bottled water and tinned food. It will be common sense, not scaremongering.”
The move follows an Iran-linked cyber attack on a small UK energy facility which prompted security experts to brief energy bosses.
