Business advisor shortlisted for prestigious national award

An Aberdeen based Business Gateway Adviser is celebrating after being recognised in the finals of a prestigious award.

Liz Pirrie, who is part of the Business Gateway team based at Elevator’s headquarters at the Bridge of Don, has been shortlisted in the Association of Scottish Businesswomen (ASB) National Business Awards 2015, in the Professional of the Year category.

The ASB awards celebrate the achievements of women who have made a significant contribution to the success of the businesses that they represent. Judges shortlisted Mrs Pirrie in recognition of the significant impact she has made on the business community through her work with Elevator and Business Gateway.

Elevator is an Aberdeen based social enterprise that supports both new and growing businesses through the delivery of Business Gateway services across Aberdeen City, Shire and Tayside regions. In addition, Elevator encourages the entrepreneurs and business leaders of tomorrow through a number of enterprise challenge initiatives.

In 2012, Mrs Pirrie took the decision to join the Elevator team as a Business Adviser so that she could pass on many of the skills that she developed whilst running her own successful bookkeeping business.

She was inspired to follow a new career path after she attended Business Gateway workshops when running her own business, and found them to be a valuable resource.

Mrs Pirrie, said: “I am delighted to be shortlisted as a finalist in these awards. When I was running my own business, I thought the role of my Adviser looked both fun and fulfilling, and inspired me to join the team at Elevator and Business Gateway.

“I love my job and always feel privileged to be helping business owners through their journey, be it start-up or growth. My job is so rewarding it barely feels like work, so to be nominated for an award for doing it is the icing on the cake.”

Andrew Burnett, Operations Director of Elevator, said: “We are extremely proud of Liz for reaching the finals of these prestigious business awards. In her role, she offers first-class business advice and support, and always goes the extra mile for the start-up and growing businesses she supports in Aberdeen City and Shire.”

The ASB awards dinner will be held at the Grand Central Hotel in Glasgow on the Tuesday 18 September.
