The Business Beats Cancer board is a group of dedicated professionals who come together to raise money on behalf of Cancer Research UK. Over the last 50 years Cancer Research UK’s groundbreaking work has helped double cancer survival but with nearly 1 in 2 people getting cancer in their lifetime, more work is needed to improve prevention and develop treatments.

Over the last couple of months, the Aberdeen board have strengthened their committee with the addition of four new members with a wealth of skills and endless enthusiasm!

Claire Thomson is director of Staging Rooms, a property staging business, that styles properties prior to sale or rent. She is also founder and event host of Aberdeen Property Network which promotes collaboration between local property professionals. However, it’s Claire’s previous career as a nurse, caring for cancer patients and personal loss as a result of cancer that motivated her to join the board and offer practical support.

Darren Cutherbertson is the Centre Principal at Porsche Aberdeen and has 32 years in the motor industry where he has successfully built relationships with a diverse range of people. He is looking forward to using his experiences of leading start-ups, disposals, and acquisitions to help the board further its reach and achieve its goals of beating cancer sooner!

Kelci Graham is a Relationship Manager at Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce, where she supports members in maximising their membership, building valuable connections and making the most of the opportunities available to them. Kelci will be using her social media talents to promote the work of the board to businesses across all sectors and locations of the northeast.

Finally, Giusy Commendatore is Head of Talent Management at Everware Consulting GmbH and has extensive international recruitment experience across technology and business sectors. She is committed to connecting people and building meaningful relationships while supporting initiatives that make a positive difference.

All four share a passion to raise vital funds for cancer research through their volunteer roles on the board and are willingly pledging their time outside of their day jobs.

Chair of the Aberdeen board, Dr Monika Gostic said: “We’re thrilled to welcome these new board members, whose experience, energy and connections will help us broaden our reach, strengthen our partnerships and ultimately raise even more for lifesaving cancer research.”

The board are making plans for their next flagship fundraising event, a gala dinner in June 2027 with a formal announcement to follow shortly. The evening will build on the successes of the previous 2 events which collectively raised over £85,000. They are keen to hear from organisations or individuals who like to get involved and help them smash their fundraising aim for 2027.
