Businesses are being urged to support a £17,000 fundraising campaign to provide children at Middleton Park Primary School with the books they need to develop vital reading skills.

The school's Parent Council has launched an ambitious appeal to improve a reading scheme which has been in place since the school first opened.

The current collection of books is no longer sufficient to meet the needs of pupils, with teachers having to make constant adjustments to deliver reading lessons because of limited resources.

The existing scheme also struggles to accommodate the diverse learning needs of children, including those who require additional support.

Now, parents are hoping the generosity of Aberdeen's business community can help transform reading opportunities for pupils for years to come.

The £17,000 fundraising target would allow the school to introduce a modern, inclusive reading scheme, providing engaging new books, sufficient copies for group lessons and specialist resources for children with additional learning needs.

The Parent Council is particularly keen to encourage local companies to consider making a contribution, with donations of all sizes making a difference.

Just £125 would fund a complete reading-level book set for a class, while £350 would provide a comprehensive year-group collection of fiction and non-fiction titles.

A contribution of £1,000 or more could help fund specialist phonics and learning support resources for pupils who need additional assistance.

Every penny raised will go directly towards purchasing new reading resources, ensuring donations make a tangible difference in classrooms.
