Plans for a new housing development in Portlethen have been approved by councillors, paving the way for almost £35million of work for Aberdeenshire firms.
Members of Aberdeenshire Council’s Kincardine and Mearns Area Committee backed proposals from Cala Homes to complete the long-unfinished development at Schoolhill.
The decision will allow Cala to begin its first development in Portlethen, with the housebuilder planning to invest more than £49million in the wider project.
The next two phases will deliver 87 homes, comprising 41 private properties and 46 affordable homes, with further phases planned as the wider site is completed.
Modelling by BiGGAR Economics estimates that around 70% of construction expenditure will be spent with local contractors and suppliers, representing almost £35million for the Aberdeenshire supply chain.
The development will also generate around £680,000 in developer contributions, including funding for healthcare, while almost £400,000 a year in additional Council Tax revenue is expected once all phases are completed and occupied.
Ross Maclennan, Land Director at Cala Homes (North), said: “We welcome today’s decision, which will ensure Cala’s high-quality homes can be built in Portlethen for the first time.
“Family housing has long been envisaged for this location and our development will breathe new life into a site that has lain undeveloped for many years, enhancing and completing this vibrant community.”
