The Chester Hotel in Aberdeen was the setting for the official launch of The Black Women Boardroom on Thursday, September 3, bringing together women from across the business community for an evening focused on leadership, connection and opportunity.
Founded by Rabbi Obaretin, The Black Women Boardroom has been created to support Black women in business and leadership, providing a space to connect, develop and access new opportunities.
Aberdeenshire photographer Iska Walter was invited to photograph the launch and capture the story of the evening, from the speakers and official proceedings to the conversations and connections happening around the room.
The programme reflected the ambitions behind the organisation. Dr Chioma Onoshakpor spoke about creating access to leadership opportunities for Black women, while guest speaker Onyinye Igbokwe explored breaking barriers, diversity, leadership and impact. Fatou Ogunbiyi also shared the impact The Black Women Boardroom is already having in Essex.
There was a real energy in the room throughout the evening, a sense of women supporting one another, sharing experiences and making new connections. It felt positive, purposeful and genuinely empowering.
For Iska, those moments are just as important to photograph as the formal parts of an event. The conversations, laughter and interactions between guests tell another part of the story and capture something of what it actually felt like to be there.
And that is what great event photography is all about recording who was there. Iska’s aim at every event is to capture the atmosphere, connections and moments that tell the story of the event. The resulting images also give organisations valuable content to continue that story afterwards, through PR, social media, websites and future marketing.
The evening ended with the official launch and membership presentation before guests continued the conversations over dinner and networking.
