The stage is being set for an innovative fashion event that will spark a brand-new collaborative platform for local creative talent.
To coincide with Black History Month, Aberdeen-based Kelikume Fashion and Styling has launched its: “Catwalk Meets Culture” event at Macdonald Norwood Hall Hotel in Aberdeen on October 31st.
Working with the Robert Gordon University, NesCol and Raven Afrikulture Nigerian-born company founder Kelikume Oziomaaka, this dynamic showcase will take the essence of London Fashion Week to Aberdeen for a couture event which will set the tempo for future opportunities in the industry, in Aberdeen.
The event will showcase Kelikume Fashion and Styling’s vibrant, African-inspired fusion designs supported by locally based up-and-coming designers, stylists, models, artists and others for an event which will lay the foundations for future relationships, creating a network of creative talent working in the North-east of Scotland.
Commenting on plans for the event, its creator Kelikume Oziomaaka said: “This event is about more than just fashion: it’s about building bridges and making connections across the creative disciplines and showcasing the incredible talent that Aberdeen has. Our primary aim is to give them a London Fashion Week-type experience right here in the North east of Scotland.
“More than a one-off event, we hope the unique reach and impact of this evening will mean that it becomes annual and lays the foundations for a hub that celebrates fashion innovation with local partnerships, mentorship and more.”
Dr Karen Cross from RGU’s School of Creative and Cultural Business said: “Robert Gordon University is so excited to be a part of this vibrant and creative fashion event. Kelikume Fashion and Styling has provided excellent opportunities for our Fashion Management students and graduates to gain valuable industry experience, build their collaboration skills and importantly, develop greater cultural awareness about global fashion. It is amazing for this event to be happening in Aberdeen, and great to know that we are educating and empowering the next generation at the same time.”
Macdonald Norwood Hall General Manager Katrina Wardrop added: “We are absolutely delighted to host this event which promises to bring a vibrant energy to our historic venue, showcasing local and international diversity, innovation, style and creativity.”
