Green energy and net zero-related industries are contributing £10.2billion to the Scottish economy and supporting over 105,000 jobs, according to CBI research.

The research, carried out by CBI (Confederation of British Industry), calculates that the green sector makes up 4.9% of Scotland's total economic output, more than double that of agriculture, the BBC reports.

Employment included in the data covers jobs such as those building and maintaining infrastructure like wind farms and hydropower projects, and installation on solar panels and heat pumps at domestic level.

Aberdeen and the North-east though, where around 1,000 jobs are lost every month in oil and gas, is not noted as being at the forefront of green energy employment.

Instead, Perth and Kinross instead identified as the main hotspot where 12% of the local economy is net zero-related.

Aberdeen and East Lothian, however, are mentioned as being other notable locations where green industries contribute the highest proportion of economic value.

While the economic value in Perth and Kinross is more concentrated on hydropower schemes, Aberdeen and the North-east's contribution comes from offshore wind, hydrogen production and carbon capture and storage.
