Chamber demands action on business rates from Scottish Government

The Chamber has sent a letter to the Holyrood Finance Secretary Derek MacKay MSP asking for Scottish Government action ahead of the business rates revaluation that comes into effect on April 1, 2017.

The letter was sent by Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce and co-signed by representatives from Aberdeen Inspired, Oil & Gas UK, Knight Frank, Aberdeen City & Shire Hotels Association, Subsea UK and Savills.

The group is concerned on the detrimental impact that the revaluation will have on businesses in the North-east, and asserts that it has the potential to drive many businesses into insolvency, or at best lead to further job losses.

Notices of the new values are being sent out in March, but the new rateable values are currently available to view on www.mygov.scot/business-rates-calculator/#introduction and these come into effect for a five-year period.

You can read the letter here.
