City centre exhibition for Gray's students

A new exhibition showcasing work by second year students at Gray’s School of Art is opening in Aberdeen city centre this week.

‘Looking Forward’ will open at Pentland Fine Art Dealers and Gallery on Friday, June 3, running until Friday, June 10 and features work by 27 Fine Art students including painting, installation, print media and moving image.

Gray's graduate, practising artist and owner of the gallery, Shelagh Swanson has generously allowed the students to exhibit their work there.

Shelagh said: "It is an absolute pleasure to host this exhibition. As a Gray's graduate myself, I know how valuable this experience will be for the students. It'll give them a true insight into the workings of a commercial gallery space, which will hold them in good stead for the future.

“I'm looking forward to what will be a very rich and varied show - it'll be a great opportunity for both the gallery and the public to discover raw new talent."

Student Abby Quick (22), who has helped organised the exhibition, said: “It's really exciting to bring both Fine Art degrees together, as it is something that has never been done before in second year at Gray's.

“We have learnt so much already about curating and organising an exhibition, and it should be a fun way to mark the end of the semester before parting ways for summer.”
