City law firm edges closer to £20,000 fundraising target

Runners and cyclists from an Aberdeen law firm have raised £1,800 in the last month for a local cancer research charity, taking their fundraising total for 2017 to £13,000.

Staff and partners from Stronachs LLP took part in various sporting events throughout August, to help the North-east firm reach its £20,000 fundraising target for its nominated charity, Friends of ANCHOR.

The team donned judge costumes to tackle The Anchor Wipeout Challenge with others taking on the Great Aberdeen Run and the Ride the North two-day cycling event to support the charities’ efforts in recruiting a world-class cancer research team to the North-east of Scotland.

Stronachs leasing administrator, Liane Munro has been helping coordinate the team’s fundraising efforts.

Ms Munro said: “We’d like to thank everyone who has supported us over the last weeks - either by sponsoring us or turning up on the day to cheer us on at the starting line!

“We have been completely overwhelmed by the generosity of our staff, clients and the public throughout our fundraising campaign for Friends of ANCHOR and we are thrilled to have generated so many donations so far.

“We are looking forward to continuing our fundraising efforts for this fantastic local charity in the coming months.”

Liz Stewart, a partner at Stronachs, will take part in the Crathes and Giant Causeway half marathon routes in September to raise money for the charity, having already completed the Garioch half marathon, the Baker Hughes and Run Balmoral 10K races this year.

Staff from Stronachs will then climb, wade and slide through a series of muddy obstacles across the 5K Glack Attack course in October, with all money raised being donated to Friends of Anchor.

Friends of ANCHOR was set up in 1997 to directly support cancer and haematology patients by committing long-term funding to medical equipment, patient wellbeing and leading cancer research. Every penny donated goes directly to the cause as all the charity’s running and administration costs are covered by Balmoral Group.
