More than 1,000 serving military personnel, veterans and cadets were joined by massed pipes and drums and vintage military vehicles in Aberdeen’s Armed Forces Day parade on Saturday June 27.
The parade started at Albyn Place, before making its made its way along Union Street, Union Terrace, Schoolhill, Upperkirkgate, Broad Street, before finishing at the Castlegate.
The Lord Provost of Aberdeen, Dr David Cameron, in his role as His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant was joined by Lord-Lieutenant Cadets, Deputy Lieutenants, The Lord Dean of Guild and representatives from the serving military, Royal British Legion and military cadets to take the salute in front of the City’s official flagpole outside Marischal College, on Broad Street.
The Lord-Lieutenant said: “Today’s parade is a powerful and moving tribute to the courage, professionalism, and sacrifice of our Armed Forces, past and present. It was truly heartening to see the streets of Aberdeen lined with people of all ages, proudly coming together to show their appreciation and support.
“Events like this provide an important opportunity for us to recognise not only those who serve, but also the families and communities who stand beside them. The big turnout reflects the respect and gratitude that exists across our city for the invaluable contribution our Armed Forces make in supporting communities both at home and overseas.
“The parade also highlights the enduring bond between Aberdeen and our Armed Forces community. From serving personnel and veterans to cadets and volunteers, their commitment, resilience, and sense of duty continue to inspire us all. It is an honour for our city to have an Armed Forces Day parade, and I would like to thank everyone who took part and everyone who came along to show their support.”
