CLAN Inverurie celebrates link with M&S store

A North-east cancer support charity has received a boost from the Inverurie branch of a multinational retailer which will see funds raised throughout the year.

Employees at the Marks & Spencer store in Inverurie have chosen CLAN Cancer Support as their charity of the year 2018 to 2019.

CLAN volunteers will be bag packing in the store on Saturdays throughout the year and in just two weekends more than £1,200 has already been raised.

The charity opened a new centre in the town’s Burnside Court last year and the new partnership with M&S will also increase awareness of the services it offers.

Danielle Beaton, M&S Inverurie store manager, said: “We’re delighted to support CLAN Inverurie this year. Several staff members have been affected by cancer and know the impact it can have on the whole family. We know CLAN Cancer Support does great work for people in the area and their new premises is close to our store.”

Fiona Cormack, CLAN’s Aberdeenshire area co-ordinator, said: “This is great news for our service in Inverurie and district. We are so pleased to have the support of M&S and the partnership will help raise funds to deliver our services to those affected by cancer as well as help spread the word that we are in the new centre in Burnside Court.

“Since we opened last autumn we have started a walking group, craft group and gentle exercise class. We also offer complementary therapies, a listening service, and support for children and families.

“We have been blown away by the generosity of the Inverurie public to our bag packing service at the M&S store. The funds raised will make a real difference to our work to support those affected by cancer in the area.”
