Clan Cancer Support is challenging thrill seekers to climb inside one of Scotland’s biggest and most iconic landmarks this September to raise money for local people impacted by cancer.

The Kelpies Experience tasks participants to scale the 30-metre-tall equine sculpture from within, climbing as high as 25 metres to look out of the horse’s mouth across panoramic views of the Forth and Clyde canal.

Climbers will use a series of ladders, cable crossings and suspended platforms in a guided aerial exploration of the sculptures which takes around 90 minutes to complete.

Once climbers have reached the top of the sculpture they can choose to descend by abseil, or a quick flight rope drop which gives the feeling of free falling before being lowered to the ground.

The Kelpies Experience is only available to those organising large group bookings or taking part in a charity fundraising event, like the one planned for Clan Cancer Support on Sunday, September 27.

The charity trialled the event in 2025 with a group of eight from Clan taking on the challenge, before organising the opportunity for supporters in 2026.

Clan’s CEO, Fiona Fernie, said: “I was part of the Clan team who took on The Kelpies Experience last year and can vouch for the thrill and completely unique experience which awaits participants.

“We are excited to offer this once in a lifetime opportunity to our supporters and would urge anyone who wants to take on this epic challenge with friends and colleagues to book their place now, your support will help Clan provide its vital cancer support services to local people.”

Internationally renowned artist and sculptor Andy Scott created the Kelpies which are the world’s largest equine sculpture and have attracted more than seven million visitors since their launch in 2014.

The Kelpie Experience with Clan Cancer Support will take place on Sunday, September 27 with slots available from 8.30am until 2.30pm. Participants must pay a £30 registration fee and commit to raising £250 for Clan Cancer Support.
