CNOOC International has committed £20,000 to AFCCT’s 12-week MINDSET programme, which delivers a proactive, practical and preventative approach to promoting mental wellbeing among young people aged 10–14.

This marks CNOOC’s third consecutive year supporting the programme.

This investment will enable AFCCT to deliver MINDSET to 800 young people across the City and Shire. The programme provides a practical toolkit focused on building positive life skills that support mental wellbeing, prevent future issues, and align with AFCCT’s vision to create lasting opportunities that change lives for the better.

During the 2024/25 academic year, 791 pupils across eight schools completed the MINDSET programme. Post-programme evaluations showed increased knowledge of empathy, mental wellbeing and physical wellbeing. Participants also reported meaningful improvements in emotional wellbeing.

AFCCT is on course to engage with over 1,000 young people across 15 schools during the 2025/26 academic year, with plans to further expand MINDSET in 2026/27, supported by CNOOC’s continued commitment.

Murray Collie, MINDSET Development Officer, said: "The MINDSET programme aims to equip young people with practical skills and strategies to manage the stresses of everyday life, while also making conversations around mental wellbeing more commonplace in the classroom.

"Thanks to CNOOC International’s continued commitment, we’re able to provide pupils with this vital mental health education at a time when access might not otherwise be possible. Their support is helping us make a real, lasting impact on young people across Aberdeen City and the Shire, and we are extremely grateful."

Karen Lovie, Executive Assistant & CSR Analyst for CNOOC, said: “CNOOC is pleased to support AFCCT’s MINDSET programme once again, as it plays an important role in supporting young people’s mental wellbeing. Encouraging positive mental health and practical coping skills helps students thrive both in school and beyond.

"We look forward to seeing the programme expand and support even more young people across Aberdeen City and Shire.”
