Last week The Changineer Ltd collaborated with Aegenium Ltd to deliver Carbon Literacy Training to the team at Esquare Innovations Ltd.
Founder Danielle Dale of The Changineer Ltd, and Paolo Monachello of Aegenium Ltd, met through the People Planet Pint events that Danielle hosts in Aberdeen. Both consultancies offer a range of services to the SME audience and both are Carbon Literacy facilitators. It made sense to join forces and bring this training to local businesses.
Carbon Literacy enables organisations to take impactful climate action and enact the cultural shift necessary for the transition to a low-carbon economy. It is a globally unique initiative, developed by The Carbon Literacy Project and recognised by the UN at COP21.
Defined as “An awareness of the carbon costs and impacts of everyday activities, and the ability and motivation to reduce emissions, on an individual, community and organisational basis”, this is a training could benefit everyone as our systems shift and the need for responsible business practices increase.
‘Carbon Literacy’ is the ability to understand, communicate about, and act on climate change in our daily lives. It’s about being equipped and empowered to deliver the best possible climate action, wherever you live, work or study. This training has now been completed by over 154,778 citizens with 558,000t CO2e saved through behaviour changes.
Course content is tailored to suit different audience types, from councils, to academia and the business contexts such as SMEs. Participants are accredited “Certified Carbon Literate” a globally recognised qualification, following successful evidence submission.
Esquare Innovations Ltd, who innovate sustainable technology solutions for a range of applications, are also regular attendees at People Planet Pint. Esquare took the opportunity to increase their carbon literacy by putting ten team members through the training, which was delivered at their premises in Aberdeen. The facilitators Danielle & Paolo, related the training content to Esquare’s day to day operations and longer term plans throughout, to ensure participants got the most out of the course.
When asked what would you say to people about this training? a participant said “The training is a must-have. It not only makes attendees aware of the negative consequences of their everyday actions on the environment and climate, but also motivates a change in behaviour. It was highly interactive and thought-provoking”.
The Changineer Ltd & Aegenium Ltd are already planning their next collaborative venture, a two day training in April. Incorporating Carbon Literacy with how to create a Carbon Reduction Plan, which are now needed for many procurement/tendering enquiries.
