Kayleigh’s Wee Stars (KWS) has announced the return of their Cycle Sportive, taking place on Saturday 4 October 2025 in Newmachar, Aberdeenshire.
The much-loved community cycling event offers routes for all ages and abilities, from family-friendly gravel rides to challenging road routes, making it a highlight of the local sporting calendar.
Riders can choose from four routes: two shorter off-road options of 12 and 17 miles, designed with families in mind, or the longer 57-mile and 90-mile road routes, which take cyclists through the scenic Donside countryside. The 90-mile “Kayleigh’s Big Star” challenge includes the infamous Suie Hill climb, where riders will be cheered on with refreshments and encouragement at the “Scotty Stop” near the summit.
The event begins at the Axis Centre in Newmachar, which provides parking and facilities. There is no entry fee for the sportive, instead, participants are invited to make a donation via the Kayleigh’s Wee Stars fundraising page or at registration on the day. Every rider will receive a certificate of completion, while children will also be awarded a medal and finisher’s goodies to mark their achievement.
Feed stations stocked with cakes, bars and drinks will be available on the longer routes, and from 1pm to 4:30pm burgers will be served back at the Axis Centre for riders and supporters.
By taking part, cyclists will not only enjoy a memorable day of challenge and community spirit but also help raise vital funds for Kayleigh’s Wee Stars, which provides financial support to families where a child has a terminal illness.
Anna Cordiner, Charity Manager, said: “We’re so excited to welcome riders back for this year’s Cycle Sportive. It’s always such a special day that brings together families, friends and the local community, all while raising vital funds to families facing the most difficult of times. The support we provide to families through the charity is only possible with the incredible support we receive from our local community, which we are so grateful for.”
