Aberdeen’s city centre was treated to an unforgettable sight on Saturday morning as a giant T-Rex sprinted through the streets — sirens blaring, horns honking, and smiles spreading everywhere.

Behind the costume was Marius Coste, a Facilities Management professional with Elior UK, who has become well-known across the North-east for his creative fundraising efforts under the Miles of Smiles Challenge.

Now in Week 19 of his 78-week journey, Marius continues to raise awareness and funds for mental health (SAMH) and Clan Cancer Support through a mix of running, cycling, and cold-water challenges — all while dressed as a friendly (and slightly sweaty!) dinosaur.

His progress so far:

  • 1,347 km covered (running, cycling & walking)
  • £1,475 raised for SAMH (+ £7,000 in 2021)
  • £932 raised for Clan Cancer Support
  • 117 cold showers & 28 cold dips taken

Saturday’s T-Rex takeover saw the city come alive — with ambulances, police, and fire services even joining in the fun, sirens flashing in support. The spectacle brought laughter, smiles, and a reminder that a little joy and kindness can go a long way in supporting important causes.
