A community wellbeing initiative delivered a successful engagement event at Albyn School Sports Day last week, highlighting the role of partnership working in supporting mental health, inclusion, and youth development across the region.
The Miles of Smiles campaign, currently in Week 54 of an 82-week fundraising programme in support of SAMH and Clan Cancer Support, delivered a structured community engagement activity in collaboration with Sport Aberdeen.
The initiative involved participation in school sports day activities designed to promote enjoyment, inclusion, and positive engagement among pupils. The event contributed to creating an active and supportive environment, encouraging participation and community connection.
The campaign continues to combine physical activity with community outreach, raising awareness and funds for mental health and cancer support services across Aberdeen and surrounding areas. Activities to date have included weekly endurance-based challenges and community engagement events designed to promote wellbeing and social impact.
The initiative is led by Marius Coste, Facilities Management Leader at Elior UK, who is behind the ongoing campaign and its delivery across community settings. The programme reflects a broader commitment to workplace-led social value and community engagement.
Representatives noted the importance of collaboration between education providers, sport organisations, and third-sector partners in delivering positive wellbeing outcomes and strengthening community resilience.
As the campaign progresses beyond its halfway point, it continues to demonstrate the potential of sustained grassroots initiatives to contribute to wider social value and community wellbeing objectives across the region.
