The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has ordered an "in-depth" second phase investigation into the acquisition of Westhill-based catering firm Entier by US giant Aramark.
The major deal, involving an undisclosed sum, was agreed in February, but the CMA has now referred it for an "in-depth phase 2 investigation", The Press and Journal reports.
It centres around concerns that the acquisition could significantly reduce competition in the sector and allow prices to go up.
The progression of the investigation now comes after an initial order, preventing the companies from merging or transferring ownership until further review, was put in place in April.
And following the conclusion of the first phase of the investigation, the CMA said it was “concerned the deal may lead to higher prices and/or a lack of choice for companies which need to provide on-site catering to their staff based at sea”.
