DF Communications, the Aberdeen firm that keeps North-east businesses connected, has announced a series of contract wins as it says goodbye to its office of 36 years.

The company, which provides business mobile phones, hosted VoIP solutions and connectivity to small, medium and large business, has been based at ‘The Arches’ on South College Street since the year after it was established in 1986. Aberdeen’s rail lines to and from the south run directly above its offices.

DF sought to remain in the same area and is joining more than 40 businesses operating from neospace, on Riverside Drive, just 200 yards away from its current premises. Clients and potential clients can visit DF Communications at the new office from Monday (May 1, 2023).

DF Communications, formerly known as Dick Fleming Communications Limited, was launched by Dick Fleming. Dick built the business on a commitment to customer service, an ethos that still stands today. He retired in 2006 and sadly died in 2011.

His daughter Fiona has been with the business for 32 years and managing director for the past 17 years. DF Communications has won awards over the years, including a Northern Star Business Award for customer service and two Comms National Awards.

The move comes as DF Communications has enjoyed one of its most successful periods, with £300,000 worth of new and retained contracts secured in the past three months. This includes business mobile phone contracts, network connectivity and hosted VoIP solutions.

The new and retained contracts are with companies across several sectors including energy - operators and service firms - professional services, shipping, construction and facilities management.

In addition, DF Communications, which has 14 staff, has invested more than £50,000 in a new customer relationship management (CRM) system.

The office move also marks the end for a local landmark – the large mobile phone that was attached to the exterior of ‘The Arches’ site for more than 25 years.

Fiona said: “It’s a wrench to leave our office after all these years. The Arches has been part of our journey and we’ve had so many good times here. We have been here so long, but times change.

“We were eager to stay in the same area and the new space is far more suitable for our needs due to the change to hybrid working. It’s great for the staff and great for the clients who can still come to visit us.

“We have come through a challenging period like all businesses due to the pandemic but we have been encouraged by our recent series of contract successes. There are exciting times ahead for the business as we start a new chapter.”

Sales Director Craig Forsyth, who has been with DF for 29 years, said: “We have had a successful period due to a number of retained and new clients and we are looking to maintain that momentum as we move into the second half of the year.

“Like the rest of the team, I have many happy memories at the old office but the new space is a better fit for us going forward.”

The firm’s new office is a high-specification managed serviced office that includes access to a cafe, breakout areas, meetings rooms, a gym and on-site parking. DF’s ‘arches’ site once housed an auto-electrical workshop and a café, which was open to the public. Both were operated by DF.

DF Communications also runs the North-East Business Golf League that helps companies network and make connections in person, with 36 teams taking part in this year’s event.
