Taxi fares are set to rise by 5% in Aberdeen after the industry criticised the council's initial suggestion of 2%.
Drivers had asked Aberdeen City Council's licencing committee to sanction a rise due to the cost of keeping their cabs on the road.
An increase of 2% was initially tabled until taxis bosses produced invoices demonstrating sharp rises in costs, The Press and Journal reports.
Elected members argued a compromise needed to be reached which would allow "drivers can make a living while the public can afford it” - settling on 5%.
Rainbow City Taxis chief Russell McLeod reacted by saying the industry would have to wait and see if the increase is "adequate enough" to maintain taxi numbers in the city.
