Aberdeen City Council officers are assessing the value of the land at and around Pittodrie after Dave Cormack offered the site to the local authority in a bid to reignite new stadium plans.

Talks between Aberdeen FC and the council about a new state-of-the-art community stadium at the beach have long been at a stalemate, but Dons chairman Cormack this week, writing in the P&J, sought to revive them with a refreshed proposal.

He offered to give the council the value of the land at and surrounding Pittodrie to help push through the new stadium, the funding for which has been at the root of the deadlock.

Now, The Press and Journal reports, council co-leader Christian Allard has responded to Cormack's comments, revealing that officers are already looking into this prospect and are analysing the value of the land involved.

Cllr Allard also vowed that he would assist the club in obtaining government funding for a new beach stadium.

The developments this week come as the club and council have not met since June and bring renewed hope that discussions could be set to resume between the parties.
