Aberdeen City Council could bring in an outside operator in a bid to make the iconic Beach Ballroom a top tier wedding venue.
In an exclusive interview with The Press and Journal, the local authority's SNP Finance Convener Alex McLellan discussed ways to "maximise the commercial opportunity" the Beach Ballroom presents, while stressing the council was not seeking to "privatise" the venue.
Discussing the possibility of inviting a private operator to help run the facility, McLellan said: “We’ll explore the options on how to run it, sympathetically to its importance to the people of Aberdeen and to the council as well."
He added: "I don’t think there’s any reason it can’t be one of the top wedding venues in the North-east.
“But these things will require significant investment so we need to see how that works, and to what extent we would need to engage the private sector to operate that sort of venue."
