Angus councillors have unanimously voted to oppose SSEN’s proposed 66-mile pylon line between Kintore and Tealing.
Council leader George Meechan tabled the motion, arguing the scheme conflicts with local and national planning policy.
Several deputations urged members to reject the plans, with residents warning the 57m-high pylons would be “overwhelming”.
Despite planners recommending no objection, councillors backed Meechan’s stance, with SNP member Chris Beattie branding the project “a colossal act of vandalism.”
SSEN says the line is a key element of its £22billion Pathway to 2030 investment and would support jobs, business growth and clean energy infrastructure.
The final decision now rests with the Scottish Government, and the council’s objection could trigger a public inquiry.
