COVID-19 non-essential visitation suspension

VSA takes the welfare of the vulnerable people it supports at all of its services very seriously. Over the past few weeks, VSA has proactively implemented additional infection control protocols across all of its services to protect all of the vulnerable people from COVID-19.

In light of government advice, which is changing daily, VSA has taken an important step to protect the health and wellbeing of the vulnerable people it supports, and have therefore decided to suspend all non-essential visits to its residential sites until further notice to help mitigate the risk of infection from COVID-19.

VSA has consulted with various stakeholders who are fully supportive of the measures it is implementing. Please be assured that all essential services, including medical assistance, will operate as normal. Its staff will be doing all that they can to continue providing the highest level of care to all our residents.

To maintain contact with family members and friends, it is being actively encouraged that all residents increase communication activity over the telephone, social media, and video calling. Each of its residential facilities will be provided with additional electronic devices to enable this to happen.

There is no evidence to suggest anyone has been exposed to COVID-19 but the charity’s top priority is the health and safety of the vulnerable people it supports.

VSA has proactively implemented additional infection control processes over the past few weeks to limit the risk of COVID-19. This new decision to ban non-essential visitors is another preventative measure to ensure it is not putting any of its service users at risk.

The charity also made the difficult decision to postpone its Civic Reception, Tea Party at its sites and Sing, Sing, Sing events due to take place this month. The events have all been rescheduled for later in the year.

Kenneth Simpson, chief executive said “The welfare of the vulnerable people we support is our uttermost priority. We already have robust infection control practices and strict protocols in place to limit the risk of infection. This new decision is another precautionary measure to stop the spread of coronavirus. We believe that this decision allows us to best protect the people who use our services and ensure that our staff are also protected, and better able to continue to provide the valuable, high quality of care our residents deserve. “

“We will continue to monitor our residents’ health closely and continuously to provide the best of care. We would like to thank residents, relatives and staff for their cooperation with this decision”
