Aberdeen-based creative print specialist XIC is celebrating its 40th year in business, alongside a significant new chapter as its directors take full ownership of the company.
Founded in
1986 by Bill Fawcett, XIC has built a reputation for innovation, being the
first in Scotland to introduce digital composition, Apple Mac workstations in
1987 and gain BS5750 certification.
Now four
decades on, managing director, Murray Alexander, and director, Jason Moir, who
have both worked for the company for more than 30 years, have acquired the
remaining shares from founder, Bill Fawcett, giving them 100% ownership of the
business.

Throughout the years, XIC has continued to evolve its capabilities, investing significantly in technology, equipment and customer experience. In the last two years alone, the company has installed two large format printers, a direct-to-object printer and two digital printing presses, alongside new software systems to enhance efficiency and output quality.
The business is supported by a highly experienced team, many of whom have been with the company for a long time. XIC has an average employee tenure of 18 years, with several team members having dedicated decades to the business.
Its longest-standing team member, Malcolm Cruickshank, joined in 1984 with ProntaPrint, which then became Xpress Print, as a trainee lithographic printer and now works as a senior production operative.

Murray Alexander, who joined XIC in 1991 said: “Reaching 40 years in business is a huge achievement and something Jason and I are incredibly proud of. Having both started our careers here, taking full ownership of XIC feels like a natural next step.
“The trust our clients place in us, reflected in recent contract renewals, is a real testament to our talented team and the quality of work we deliver. Looking ahead, we’re excited to expand XIC’s display capabilities and explore the use of AI to enhance efficiency and creativity across our business.”

Today, XIC produces around 5,000 orders each year for clients across a wide range of sectors including energy, legal, financial, hospitality, food, leisure, automotive, manufacturing and renewables. The company is particularly recognised for its large-scale office enhancement projects which are often the most creative, technical and impactful projects.
In the past year, the company has supported 325 active clients and delivered large-scale projects across the UK, China, Dubai, Spain, Germany, Netherlands, Singapore, Malta and Turkey.
Sustainability is a core priority for XIC, with 80% of its waste recycled, an all-electric vehicle fleet, chemical-free production, sustainably sourced paper and a range of eco-conscious print solutions. The company is also a member of the World Land Trust Carbon Balancing scheme, reinforcing its commitment to environmental responsibility.
