A collection of limited-edition merchandise commemorating Aberdeen's historic football victories in 1983 has been launched, marking 40 years since the city’s greatest ever team of players were ranked number one in Europe.
As the only Scottish club to lift two European trophies, this one-off collection captures the essence of such a legendary achievement by the club.
Designed and produced by Fine Day Studio, the memorabilia includes four silver foil goal prints - one for each scored in 1983 Cup Winners' Cup and Super Cup by Eric Black, John Hewitt, Neil Simpson and Mark McGhee.
Colin Leonard, Founder of Fine Day Studio, shared an insight into the design process, saying “After a lot of searching we were delighted to track down the distinctive typeface used in club’s programme ‘The Don’ back in 1983. We digitised the ‘Delta’ slab serif, featuring it throughout the collection. Combining this with the application of silver foil for the iconic goal prints, we believe it represents the specialness of what was, and still is, a monumental achievement.”
Fine Day, the Aberdeen based creative studio, used their design expertise earlier this year to produce a commemorative programme for the Gothenburg European Cup Winners' Cup anniversary.
“We were delighted to be commissioned for these dream projects and wanted to create meaningful designs that resonates with fans and captures such historic moments in Aberdeen's history. It’s been a fantastic year for us as a team, and meeting some of Aberdeen’s greatest team of all time has been a personal highlight.”
Fans now have the opportunity to get their hands on this exclusive design collection which will make for ideal Christmas keep-sake gifts.
