Cullen man smashes target and raises £11k for Maggie’s Aberdeen

North-east man Alex Hutcheon has further smashed his fundraising target of £150 for Maggie’s Centre Aberdeen, with over £11,000 raised for the cancer support charity.

His friends and family surprised Alex at the Maggie’s Aberdeen Centre on March 15, with a cheque presentation to celebrate his efforts and continued support to the charity.

Following Alex’s cancer diagnosis at the end of last year, he chose to shave his head before starting his treatment and raise funds for Maggie’s at the same time. The Centre began to support him and his family from the very start of his cancer journey.

Alex is thrilled with the continued response to his initial fundraising. He said: “Being able to donate such a sizeable amount of money to Maggie’s is fantastic.

“The Centre has been such an important hub for my family and I over the past few months, and I am so pleased that the important service they provide the region will be helped by the money raised.”

Maggie’s offer free practical and emotional support for all people living with cancer, and their family and friends.

Centre fundraising manager Paula Cormack at Maggie’s Centre Aberdeen said: “We are so grateful to Alex and to everyone who has contributed to his fundraising efforts.

“By choosing to support Maggie’s, Alex has not only raised a phenomenal amount of money, but also raised awareness of the support Maggie’s provides to those affected by cancer in the North-east.”
