Three North-east dance schools have joined forces for a fun-filled day of dance and movement to raise funds for beloved local venue, Aberdeen Arts Centre.

Danz Creations, Gray School of Dance and Natalie Tough School of Dance have come together for the Day of Dance on July 28, 2026 – a day of special classes and workshops for young people in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire.

With the dance teachers donating their time, all money raised from registrations will go to the campaign to Save Aberdeen Arts Centre – currently two thirds of the way into a drive to raise £60,000 in six weeks.

Tickets cost just £23 per person, and are available from https://www.aberdeenartscentre.com/whats-on/day-of-dance

Young people aged 8-15 have the chance to learn from three of the region’s most respected dance tutors across a wide range of styles – from commercial jazz to musical theatre. Participants will even get the chance to learn a routine straight from the stage of the Arts Centre’s popular 2025 pantomime, Robin Hood.

Aberdeen Arts Centre fundraising manager Julia Smith said: “We’re so excited to be hosting the Day of Dance in the school summer holidays. We can’t wait for the building to be filled with the sound of young people getting involved in the arts, and learning something new!

“We are so grateful to our tutors Lee Simpson, Eilidh Ross and Natalie Tough for donating their time to support the Arts Centre. Each of their dance companies performs regularly in Aberdeen Arts Centre, and we are so thrilled to have them back in the building for this special day of fun and fundraising.

“Whether your child is a dancer, a musical theatre star in the making, or just curious about dipping a toe in the world of performance, there’s a place for everyone to get involved.

“No experience or special equipment is necessary to take part – just a desire to get moving, and a passion for keep the doors open at a community venue that means to much to so many people across the north east of Scotland.”

Aberdeen Arts Centre is an independent arts venue in the heart of Aberdeen, operated by registered charity Castlegate Arts Ltd for over a quarter of a century.

For more than 60 years, Aberdeen Arts Centre has played a crucial role in the north east’s vibrant arts scene through its programme of performances, Creative Learning Programme for children and adults, and an Artist Development Programme to support local professional creatives. In April 2026, Aberdeen Arts Centre appointed Call the Midwife star Laura Main as its official patron.

In May 2025, the centre launched the Save Aberdeen Arts Centre campaign – a three-year, £660,000 fundraising drive to secure its future. Individuals and corporate sponsors can find out more and donate at https://www.aberdeenartscentre.com/save-aberdeen-arts-centre

Aberdeen Arts Centre encompasses a 350-seater auditorium; café bar; flexible spaces for performances, events, exhibitions and meetings; and the Children’s Theatre, opened by Catherine Hollingworth in the 1950s as a pioneering youth theatre (the first of its kind in the UK) and now used as a vital resource for professional artist development.
