The closing date for businesses in the North-east to shine is fast approaching, however the deadline has been extended due to the early Easter break to allow companies more time to get nominations in.

Nominations for this year’s Northern Star Business Awards can now be submitted by Monday, April 24, 2017 at 5pm. Organised by Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce, the awards recognise companies in the North-east for exceptional accomplishments across a range of fields from research and development to procurement, customer service to people development.

The winners will be announced at a glittering ceremony at the AECC on Thursday, October 5, 2017. Last year 39 finalists joined 700 guests to celebrate excellence and entrepreneurship at the award ceremony.

Liam Smyth, deputy chief executive of the Chamber said: “The Northern Star Business Awards are a highpoint for the Chamber, giving North-east businesses from every sector the opportunity to showcase and celebrate their success and achievements.

“Despite the difficult economic climate, Northern Star entry levels remained high in terms of quantity but most importantly quality, making these awards a true benchmark of business excellence in North-east Scotland."

The nominations are across 13 award categories, which are:

  • Achievement in International Business
  • Best Campaign of the Year
  • Commitment to Innovative Use of Research & Development
  • Commitment to People Development
  • Excellence in Customer Service
  • Excellence in Health & Safety
  • Excellence & Innovation in Procurement
  • Outstanding Contribution to the Energy Sector
  • Outstanding Contribution to Society
  • Overall Business of the Year

A lifetime achievement award is also announced on the night. Last year, former principal of North East Scotland College, Rob Wallen, was handed this accolade for his outstanding contribution to the region. Previous winners of this award have included Professor Sir Duncan Rice, Sir Malcolm Bruce, Sir Ian Wood and Jimmy Milne CBE.

The winners of the Northern Star Business Awards will be announced on Thursday, October 5, 2017 at the Aberdeen Exhibition & Conference Centre, in the Bridge of Don in Aberdeen.
