A long-vacant site in Aberdeen’s Bridge of Don is set for a new lease of life under plans for a £10million investment.
West Coast Estates has unveiled ambitious proposals to transform the former Baker Hughes land on Woodside Road into a vibrant roadside destination.
The 1.85-hectare site will be redeveloped to include a new Lidl foodstore, an EV charging hub and a café/restaurant.
The £10 million investment will create around 90 permanent jobs, along with 100 construction roles during the build phase, bringing much-needed facilities for local residents and commuters.
Developers say the scheme represents the productive reuse of brownfield land, delivering “strong occupiers, improved connections and a credible example of sustainable regeneration in action.”
The proposals come as significant investment gathers pace on the opposite side of the road, where Cala Homes has secured planning permission to build a £20 million premium housing development on the former Silverburn House site.
Once home to some of the North Sea oil and gas industry’s biggest names — including Occidental, TotalFinaElf and GE Energy — the office complex was demolished in 2019 after being left empty during the oil price slump. Cala will now deliver 67 homes, including 16 affordable properties, helping to reshape what had become an unsightly gateway to the city.
Members of the public will have the opportunity to view the roadside destination proposals and share feedback at a consultation event on Tuesday 14 October, at Kings Church, Bridge of Don, between 3pm and 7pm.
