Developing the Young Workforce (DYW) North East has appointed Jamie Hutcheon as its new director to drive its mission of connecting employers with education and preparing young people for the world of work.
Jamie brings over 20 years’ leadership experience to the position across the public, private and third sectors. His track record spans enterprise, business development, partnership working and service development. Jamie joins DYW North East from Aberdeenshire Council, where he led the Business Gateway service across Aberdeen City and Shire, overseeing regional programmes. He has developed his own business and has worked with, and mentored, young people throughout his career.
In his new role, Jamie will work closely with the DYW North East team, board and stakeholders to strengthen employer engagement, enhance links between industry and education, and help more young people achieve positive career destinations.
Jamie said: “I am excited to be joining DYW North East as director. DYW plays a pivotal role in connecting education and business, supporting young people and helping to shape the future workforce. Our region is going through significant economic and skills transitions; this presents a real opportunity to build on the excellent progress that has already been made.
“By collaborating effectively with others, I believe that DYW North East can contribute to a skilled and successful regional economy. I look forward to working with the team, the board and our partners to maximise impact for young people, employers and the wider economy.”
Commenting on Jamie’s appointment, Mavis Anagboso, chair of DYW North East, said: “We are very pleased to welcome Jamie as our new director. He brings a strong mix of strategic leadership, operational delivery and regional insight. Jamie’s experience of working across different sectors, alongside his passion for people and partnership, makes him ideally placed to lead DYW North East into its next phase of development. On behalf of the board, I congratulate Jamie on his pivotal appointment and look forward to the next chapter of DYW North East.”
