Over the summer holidays, The Trinity Centre teamed up with Dinky Doctor’s to provide first aid training to 240 children between the ages of 3 - 12 years old. The sessions were a huge success with each session selling out within 24 hours of going live. From as young as three years old the children were taught the basics of checking for breathing, rolling the person on their side and dialling 999. Children in the 5 - 8 year group learnt CPR and how to use a public access defibrillator.

The shows were made to be fun and interactive with characters which make learning a life skill easier, more memorable and engaging. Following on the success of the event, Dinky Doctors have been nominated for ‘Community First Aid Champion’ in the Scottish First Aid Awards this year. This award is given to an individual or organisation who has excelled in promoting first aid and educating their community - ultimately being ambassadors for health and safety.

Cheryl Jones, Dinky Doctors owner commented, “We were thrilled when The Trinity Centre offered us a Dinky Hospital, the chance to get into the community and allow 240 children to be given the life skill of first aid, this was the aim of Dinky Doctors and The Trinity Centre gave us a huge platform to do this. We are deeply grateful for the support including Peter Vardy Aberdeen and Original 106. It was a unique opportunity to create something different for children to learn a vital skill through a fun interactive way whilst being able to give something to local charities. We hope to work with them again in the future.”

The Trintiy Centre covered the costs of the sessions and Dinky Doctors donated 100% of the money to two local charities, Me Too! and VSA which made the event free for everyone who attended.

Linda Stewart, general manager added, “We were overwhelmed with the positive response we received from our customers. We helped teach 240 children essential first aid skills which may be used to help save someone’s life in the future.”

The finalists will be announced next month with the awards taking place in Glasgow on Friday, November 15.
