Duncan Taylor Scotch Whisky has picked up two major awards for two of its rums in The Spirits Business Rum Masters competition.
Chairman of Duncan Taylor Scotch Whisky, Euan Shand has been involved with exporting rums for over 25 years. Whilst predominantly a whisky company, the company itself has laid down casks of rum for many years from different countries all over the world.
Both the Diamond Rum and Caribbean Rum won the highest accolades from the judges with a Masters award for each. CEO of Duncan Taylor Scotch Whisky, Moji Shand commented; “These awards are highly respected within the industry. We only put two of our rums forward for this competition and both came out on top which was fantastic news as stylistically, there are more rums on the market than ever before.”
The Diamond Rum is a 14-year old single cask rum from Guyana. Whilst a sweet and gentle rum you can clearly taste the candy canes which give is a smooth finish. The Caribbean Rum is a blended rum which is earthy, herbal and nutty with 46% ABV.
The Spirits Business is one of the most influential spirits magazines in the market today. Their Rum Global Spirits Masters competition is in its 9th year and is judged by impartial and independent rum experts. It’s become one of the most respected and high profile trade competitions in the industry, attracting vast amount of entries from leading brands all over the world.
Editor of The Spirits Business and chair of the judging panel, Kristiane Sherry commented; “I’d happily drink Duncan Taylor’s Caribbean Rum blend all day and it was an easy decision by the judges to award it with a Master.” One of the judges noted; “It is rich and complex and anyone could drink it.” The 14-year old Rum from Guyana was the first to thoroughly impress the panel in its category and was deemed a “connoisseurs’ rum”. Another judge commented; “The oakiness is apparent, but it works.”
