Eat, drink and donate to charity…

An Aberdeen-based bar operator and events company, 10 Dollar Shake, has devised innovative fundraising techniques to raise money for its 2017 nominated charity, Charlie House.

The charity engages in activities and projects to support local children with complex disabilities and life-limiting conditions.

According to the ChiSP study, a report designed to inform future planning of care services for children with life-threatening conditions in Scotland, the number of children who need support has doubled in last 10 years and there are at least 1744 in the North-east who receive little or no help.

For every customer that eats at 10 Dollar Shake’s venues, The Tippling House and Rye & Soda, a 50p donation will passed to the charity as well as £1 from every sale of a special charity cocktail at The Tippling House.

The events arm of the business will also add an optional £5 donation to each invoice, which will be matched, donating £10 per event booked to the charity.

Managing director of 10 Dollar Shake, Adrian Gomes, said: “This is the third year we have selected a designated charity of the year. We’ve had much success in the past and find it’s rewarding for both the charity and our own team. In the past we have raised thousands of pounds for Friends of Anchor and Breast Cancer Care and hope we can achieve a good fundraising figure for Charlie House in 2017.

“As well as donations from the bars, we will support the charity in several other ways throughout the year. Recently an art exhibition with local craft brewers Fierce Beer Co. in one of our bars raised £220 from donations and a raffle for one of the pieces of art, by local artist Stuart Allan.

“We hope to contribute further by donating prizes for events including the upcoming ‘Over the Rainbow’ ball on Saturday March 25 2017 at the Marcliffe, where a 10 Dollar Shake cocktail party for 40 guests will be auctioned.

“Charlie House currently supports 45 families across the North-east and their children with complex medical needs. One of its projects includes running a monthly Saturday Club and a donation of only £5 pays for an additional child to attend this. A donation of £10 would pay for a child to experience a new activity for one hour on a short activity break. It’s encouraging to imagine the impact the donations from 10 Dollar Shake could have to Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire children and their families.”

Corporate and community fundraiser at Charlie House, Lynn Batham, explained she was delighted to have 10 Dollar Shake’s support as a charity partner, she said: “The donations from 10 Dollar Shake this year will help us to further the important services Charlie House currently provides.

“This includes our Saturday Club which allows the children to partake in activities and sports that they may never have experienced before and thought they would never get to. This also includes our Kielder Forest Park trip, whereby we take the families away each year. For some, this is their only opportunity to have a family holiday.

“We are also currently funding a Charlie House Community Team which will consist of children’s nurses. This is a huge step forward for us and it will allow us to support families from point of diagnosis or birth and offer them the services of our charity right away. This means we can help them transition from hospital to home as well as supporting them throughout their life journey.
“Donations to our charity help us continue to advance all of our services to make happy memories and put smiles on the faces of the children and the families we support.”
