Marius Coste, Group Cleaning Manager at Elior UK, has been invited to speak to the Rotary Club of Aberdeen Balgownie about Miles of Smiles, his ongoing fundraising campaign supporting mental health and cancer support charities.
Now in its 73-week challenge, Miles of Smiles combines running, cycling, fancy-dress challenges and cold-water activities to raise funds and awareness for SAMH and Clan Cancer Support.
Launched in 2021 following the heartbreaking loss of three babies, the campaign has grown into a long-term commitment to turning personal adversity into something positive. To date, it has raised more than £12,700 for charitable causes.
During his presentation, Marius shared the story behind the campaign and reflected on the importance of resilience, consistency and community in creating positive change.
Marius said: “It was a real privilege to be invited to speak to the Rotary Club of Aberdeen Balgownie. I am incredibly grateful for their warm welcome, their interest in Miles of Smiles and the opportunity to share the story behind the campaign.
“This journey has taught me that meaningful change rarely happens alone. Every donation, kind word, shared post and kilometre completed contributes to something bigger than any one individual.
“Ultimately, Miles of Smiles is about raising awareness, supporting charities doing vital work and reminding people facing difficult times that they are never alone.”
Alongside his professional responsibilities at Elior UK, Marius continues the challenge through to its planned conclusion on 31 December 2026, with the aim of raising as much as possible for the charities and keeping the message of hope alive.
He also expressed his gratitude to the local community, colleagues, family, friends and everyone who has supported the campaign throughout its journey.
