An Ellon dance school has supported an Aberdeen cancer support charity by donating half of the total funds raised from its Christmas show.
The Louise Macdonald School of Highland Dancing presented a cheque for £555.00 to Maggie’s Aberdeen after Shona Milne, the mother of one of the dancers, was asked to nominate a charity to benefit. Shona receives vital support from Maggie’s during her cancer treatment.
She said: “My whole family and I were touched that the dance school wanted to give a donation to a charity of my choice from funds raised at the Christmas dance show. My choice was Maggie’s.
“I've used Maggie’s since the very start of my cancer journey. The building is stunning, the inside is calming and the staff are so professional, caring and understanding. I would recommend anyone facing a cancer diagnosis to step through the door at Maggie’s.”
Maggie’s offers free practical and emotional support for all people living with cancer, and their family and friends.
Maggie’s Aberdeen Centre head Susan Sutherland said: “We are all extremely grateful to Louise Macdonald School of Highland Dancing and Shona for choosing to support Maggie’s Aberdeen.
“Maggie’s relies on donations like this from the local community to help us support people affected by cancer in the North-east and it enables us to keep our doors open.”
Louise Macdonald, owner of Louise Macdonald School of Highland Dancing said: “Maggie’s Aberdeen is very dear to our dancing family as Shona, the mum of one of our dancers Maria, was diagnosed with cancer. This charity has helped their family since the diagnosis and we are thrilled we could help raise money for Maggie’s.”
The money raised will make a real difference to Centre users. For example, just £30 could pay for a family to receive an hour’s emotional support from a psychologist, and £100 could pay for a Managing Stress session for 10 people.
