National Gas has announced a £55million investment in its Aberdeen Compressor Station over the next five years, strengthening a key part of the infrastructure that helps keep energy flowing to millions of homes, businesses and power stations across Great Britain.
Around a quarter of Britain's gas passes through Scottish infrastructure, placing Scotland at the heart of the nation's energy network. Aberdeen Compressor Station plays a critical role in that system, maintaining the pressure needed to transport gas safely and reliably through the National Transmission System. As one of 21 compressor stations across Great Britain, it helps ensure secure and dependable energy supplies every day.

Backed by £55 million of investment, the site will continue to operate safely, reliably and efficiently for decades to come. The programme will also support skilled jobs, strengthen regional supply chains and reinforce the North East of Scotland's longstanding contribution to Britain's energy security.
The announcement represents a strong vote of confidence in Aberdeen and the wider region, recognising the expertise, infrastructure and workforce that have made the North East a cornerstone of Britain's energy system for generations.
The funding is part of National Gas' ongoing programme to maintain and upgrade the infrastructure that keeps energy moving around the country, ensuring the network remains resilient and ready to meet future energy needs.
To mark the announcement, Andrew Bowie MP, Shadow Secretary of State for Scotland and Shadow Minister for Energy Security and Net Zero, and Douglas Lumsden MP, Member of Parliament for Aberdeen South, will visit Aberdeen Compressor Station later today. They will tour the site, meet the colleagues who operate it and see first-hand the vital role Aberdeen Compressor Station plays in keeping energy flowing to homes, businesses and industry across Great Britain.
