Entries are now open for the 2026 Safari Series, the popular running event series organised by Gathimba Edwards Foundation (GEF), which raises vital funds to support disadvantaged children and families in both North-east Scotland and Kenya.
Licensed by Scottish Athletics, the Safari Series races offer runners of all ages and abilities the opportunity to compete across three different distances throughout the summer months.
Entering the sixth year of the series, the charity is inviting runners, families and local supporters to sign up for the first two events in the 2026 series, with entries now open for races at Duthie Park and Prime Four Business Park.
The third event in the series, Mel’s Union Street Mile, delivered in association with Celebrate Aberdeen and held along Union Street in Aberdeen, will open for entries in mid-March.
2026 Safari Series race dates:
- 17 May – Duthie Park Races (5k and 1k)
- 28 June – Prime Four Races (3k and 1k)
- August (TBC) – Mel’s Union Street Mile
Since its launch in 2021, the Safari Series has become a much-loved fixture in the local running calendar. Funds raised through the events directly support the charity’s three pillars, Education, Shelter and Wellbeing, helping children access schooling, safe housing and essential support services in both north-east Scotland and Kenya.
The charity has announced new headline sponsorship from Maritime Developments Limited and continued support from sponsors Prime Four Business Park and Salus Technical, whose backing helps bring the series to life each year.
Myles Edwards, Co-Founder of Gathimba Edwards Foundation, said: “We’re delighted to open entries for the 2026 Safari Series and welcome runners back for another year of community-focused events. The series continues to grow thanks to the incredible support from participants, volunteers and sponsors. Every entry helps us continue delivering life-changing support for children and families both locally and in Kenya.”
Ramsay Keay, Projects Director at Maritime Developments Limited, said: “MDL is delighted to support the Safari Series and the fantastic work the Gathimba Edwards Foundation delivers for children and families in Scotland and Kenya.”
