Environmental challenges under spotlight at E-Reps Forum

A key gathering of environmental experts in the oil and gas industry is taking place in Aberdeen early next month (Oct 5, 2016).

The fifth annual E-Reps Forum is to be held on Wednesday, October 5 at the Jurys Inn at Aberdeen Airport.

With a theme of Back to Basics, the all-day event will highlight some of the key environmental issues facing the industry with a series of seminars and interactive workshops.

Delegates will be updated on the latest environmental regulations by specialists from the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy, the Health and Safety Executive and the Offshore Safety Directive Regulator.

Andy Lang, crisis and environmental response manager at Petrofac Training Services, will present on the multi-agency challenges faced during the onshore response to an offshore environmental incident.

Petrofac provides a range of solutions including oil pollution emergency plans (OPEP), oil spill response training, shoreline response plans, onshore and offshore pollution exercises, and national and SOSREP (Secretary of State’s Representative for Maritime Salvage & Intervention UK) exercises.

Resource Efficient Scotland will hold a workshop on the role of their Green Champions in improving efficiency, while a new sustainable and cost-effective environmental solution for waste water treatment will be highlighted by Augean.

In addition, One Stop Waste Solutions will deliver a workshop based on its successful Not For Landfill campaign. It was launched to reduce the amount of waste sent to North-east landfill sites and more than 60 companies have now taken the Not For Landfill pledge.

The Joint Nature Conservation Committee will give a presentation on offshore protected sites and the change in regulations which introduced the requirement to identify major environmental incidents.

As previously announced, former Royal Marine, explorer and marine biologist Monty Halls, best known for presenting the BBC series Monty Halls’ Great Escapes, will be the guest speaker at the E-Reps Forum.

Jill Rennie, founder and director of the E-Reps Forum, said: “We’re getting back to basics at this year’s E-Reps Forum: how is the industry going to drive continual improvement? Are we doing all we can to manage it and do we understand the risks?

“By doing this, we can all play a part in ensuring stakeholders provide assurance that environmental stewardship retains its rightful place on the operating agenda.”

Exhibitors include Montrose-based Anartya, the provider of the only course in the world designed for environmental representatives (e-reps) – Basic Environmental Skills Training (BEST). The course has been endorsed by industry bodies. Other exhibitors at this year’s event include AIC, DH Marine, Paragon ServicePoint, Enviroco, One Stop Waste Solutions, North Sea Bird Club and WoodRecyclAbility.

Delegates from oil majors and international supply chain businesses as well as those who have a vested interest in the environment - offshore workers, decision-makers, influencers, HSE professionals - are to attend.

This year’s sponsors include Shell, Petrofac, TAQA, hazardous waste management firm Augean North Sea Services and Aberdeen marketing and communications business Engage PR.
