Excavators top selling items at Thainstone’s most successful collective auction of the year

Thainstone Centre attracted thousands of buyers and sellers last Saturday for ANM Group’s final and most successful collective plant, machinery and equipment sale of the year.

The event saw 4,000 lots of general plant, machinery, vehicles and equipment for sale, with an outstanding 82% of all inventory sold. The top-selling item was a 2015 Volvo EC220EL tracked excavator, which sold for a substantial £74,000.

Led by the Thainstone Specialist Auctions and Aberdeen & Northern Marts teams, the live and online event takes place eight times a year at Thainstone Centre, Scotland’s premier auction centre. With a significant number of registered buyers in attendance on site, the auction also attracts many online bidders throughout the UK and Europe – there were 90 individuals registered for online bidding, located in the UK, Ireland, and as far as Bulgaria and Poland.

Mark Barrack, head of Specialist Auctions at ANM Group, said: “With the impressive line-up of equipment on offer and fantastic attendance despite the cold weather, the sale attracted the highest number of entries of the year, and was our most successful plant and machinery sale of 2017. There were strong bids across all categories due to the high-quality and well maintained stock available for sale, with increased export activity for machinery and equipment due to the weakening of the sterling currency. “The top two selling items were both excavators, part of a business insolvency, and demand was particularly strong in the light commercial vehicles and 4x4s due to the varied selection available, which we are very pleased with. “We are proud to be Scotland’s premier independent plant, machinery and equipment auction house – thanks to the incredible professionalism and expertise from our teams. We look forward to welcoming everyone to the next sale and continue building on the event’s success in the New Year.”

The tractors and plant machinery section realised the top selling item in addition to several other notable prices achieved; £66,000 for a second 2015 Volvo EC220EL tracked excavator, £64,000 for a 2015 Volvo EW160E wheeled slew excavator, and £45,500 for a 2014 JCB Fastrac 2155. In the heavy commercials category, a 2013 Scania P400 6x4 tipper sold for £33,750, £14,200 for a 2005 Mercedes Atego 2528L, and £11,200 for a 2007 Volvo FM300 6x4 tipper.
