A facilities management leader based in Aberdeen has completed a year-long community endurance initiative, reaching 52 consecutive weeks of activity without missing a single week.

Marius Coste, who works in facilities management leadership for Elior UK, completed the final week of his Miles of Smiles campaign at Aberdeen parkrun, marking one full year of continuous weekly activity.

Campaign summary

Over the 12-month period, the initiative recorded:

  • 52 weeks completed without interruption
  • 3,232 kilometres covered
  • Equivalent to the distance from Aberdeen to Ankara
  • Approximately Land’s End to John O’Groats twice
  • Around 76 marathon equivalents
  • An average of 8.85 kilometres per day

The activity included running, walking, and cycling.

Community and charitable impact

The initiative has engaged supporters across Aberdeen and beyond, including individuals, community groups, and local organisations.

To date, approximately £4,268 (+7k during 2021) has been raised for SAMH and Clan Cancer Support, with further activity continuing as part of the wider campaign.

Final week activity

The 52nd week was completed at Aberdeen parkrun, where Marius took part in the event in costume as part of the milestone finish.

The initiative was originally launched following a personal commitment made during a period of bereavement, with a focus on maintaining consistent weekly physical activity.

Ongoing activity

The wider Miles of Smiles campaign will continue for a further 30 weeks, supporting the two associated charities through continued community engagement.
