The Fairer Aberdeen Fund Partnership is set to mark Challenge Poverty Week 2025 with a special film screening and presentation event on Friday 10th October, 10am – 12.30pm, at Cowdray Hall, Aberdeen.

The event will shine a spotlight on those with lived experience, amplifying the voices of people directly affected by poverty and inequality in Aberdeen. Through film and discussion, the event will highlight the challenges faced by communities across the city and the urgent need for collective action to tackle the root causes of poverty. Peter Kelly, from Poverty Alliance, will speak about the organisation’s Scotland Demands Better campaign, which will culminate in a march and rally on October 25th in Edinburgh.

The Fairer Aberdeen Partnership works alongside communities, third-sector organisations, and local services to improve the lives of people experiencing poverty in the city. Organisations range from CFINE and SHMU to Middlefield Community Project, Foyer and Befriend a Child.

The event forms part of a series of activities taking place across Scotland during Challenge Poverty Week, which aim to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and call for solutions to poverty.

Speaking ahead of the event, Dave Black, Community Development Manager at Station House Media Unit (SHMU), who are one of the Fairer Aberdeen Fund Partners, said:

“It is vital that we focus minds on tackling poverty and inequalities in Aberdeen. We are already starting to see the devastating impact of failing to do so. This event gives people with lived experience the chance to share their realities, and for us as a city to listen, learn, and act together.”
