Aberdeen-based Fathom Group has been selected to join the first cohort of Tide Breaker, the subsea AI accelerator programme developed by Aberdeen technology company Elementz. The programme connects start-ups directly with global energy operators, real-world data and digital infrastructure to fast-track the development of trusted AI solutions for subsea integrity management.

Tide Breaker is backed by Elementz’s strategic advisory board, Compass, which includes representatives from energy operators Aker BP and Shell, and is supported by ONE Digital Tech and The Data Lab, Scotland’s Innovation Centre for Data and AI.

Fathom will bring its digital twin platform, METHOD, into the Tide Breaker programme. METHOD uses a hybrid physics-AI approach to deliver predictive integrity, intelligent risk assessment and automated engineering analysis for subsea assets. The platform’s proprietary frequency-domain engine performs structural assessments thousands of times faster than conventional methods, enabling near-real-time monitoring across entire asset portfolios. Unlike many AI solutions that operate as “black boxes,” METHOD is grounded in validated engineering principles, delivering transparent, auditable results that integrity engineers and regulators can trust.

Through Tide Breaker, Fathom will work within a controlled sandbox environment on the Elementz platform, using validated operator datasets and APIs to develop and test its technology against real subsea integrity challenges.

Richard McGowan, Managing Director and Co-Founder of Fathom Group, said: “Tide Breaker gives us exactly what a company at our stage needs — direct access to operator data, engineering expertise and structured feedback within a trusted environment. We’ve spent years developing METHOD on strong engineering foundations, and this programme provides the pathway to validate our technology with the operators who will ultimately use it. It’s a significant milestone for Fathom and for Aberdeen’s growing role in offshore digital innovation.”

Founded in 2019 and headquartered in Aberdeen, Fathom develops digital twin technology for subsea integrity and offshore wind. Work within the Tide Breaker programme is now underway.
