Xeretec, a leading independent IT technology provider, has launched an IT security guide to help small to medium businesses protect themselves from cyber threats.

The guide contains five simple and affordable steps covering data backup, protecting against malicious emails, controlling who has access, securing devices and monitoring systems. It also features a handy self-assessment checklist, allowing businesses to identify the areas they feel are secure and the areas that are perhaps vulnerable. By the end of it, companies should have a clearer view of where their risk lie and the relevant actions, they should carry out to reduce them.

Many small businesses tend to think that it won’t happen to them, their business is too small, and they would be of no interest to cyber criminals. However, there has been an increase in security threats to small businesses mainly because they tend to have less protection in place, making them an attractive target.

It is impossible to guarantee total security but by implementing the right measures you can certainly reduce the risk of falling a victim to a cyber-attack.
