MSP locked out of parliament after secret toilet camera claims

An MSP has had his Holyrood pass deactivated amid reports he placed a camera in a Scottish Parliament toilet.

Colin Smyth was suspended by Labour after being charged with possessing indecent images of children earlier this month. He is due to appear at Dumfries Sheriff Court at a later date.

It is understood that the South Scotland MSP is now facing a further charge from the police in relation to the camera allegations, first reported by The Daily Record newspaper.

Aberdeen high street vacancy hits two-year low

Aberdeen’s high street vacancy has fallen to a two-year low. The average rate across 11 Granite City streets has dropped to 18.5%, according to the P&J's latest on-foot census this August.

The census also takes in Aberdeen’s ever-changing shopping centres – where the vacancy rate has risen slightly.

At its lowest in the past two years, just over one in ten units were empty on average across the centres. Eight months later, that has risen to 15.5%.

Electric cars eligible for £3,750 discount announced

The first electric vehicles (EV) eligible for the £3,750 discount under the government's grant scheme have been announced.

The Department for Transport confirmed Ford's Puma Gen-E or e-Tourneo Courier would be discounted as part of plans to encourage drivers to move away from petrol and diesel vehicles.

Under the grant scheme, the discount applies to new eligible car models costing up to £37,000, with the most environmentally friendly ones seeing the biggest reductions. Another 26 models have been cleared for discounts of £1,500.

EasyJet manager sacked after calling colleagues ‘lovely ladies’

​Referring to female co-workers as “lovely ladies” or “my more attractive colleague” risks being perceived as sexual harassment, a tribunal has ruled.​

The judgment came in the case of Ross Barr, an easyJet cabin manager with eight years of service, who was accused of turning his public address announcements into “comedy routines” rather than safety briefings and making repeated inappropriate comments to colleagues.

He maintained that he had always communicated all the safety announcements to the passengers, although admitted that he once forgot to reference rules on charging vapes, which was mandatory.

Liz Truss backs Trump’s attempts to control US Federal Reserve

Liz Truss has thrown her weight behind President Trump’s attempts to exert greater control over the US Federal Reserve as she again blamed “institutional opponents” for forcing her out of Number 10.

Britain’s shortest-serving prime minister on record told Bloomberg’s Odd Lots podcast: “There is a reckoning coming for the central banks, not just in Britain, but also in the United States, also the [European Central Bank].”

Truss has blamed the Bank of England for orchestrating her downfall. Her ill-fated mini-budget rocked financial markets and forced the Bank of England to launch a £100billion emergency support package for the bond market.
