Council approves 333 new homes at AECC site despite fears Bridge of Don ‘would need another school’
Plans to build 333 new homes over the flattened AECC site in Bridge of Don have been given the go-ahead — despite “grave concerns” about school spaces and errant golf balls.
Persimmon Homes unveiled plans for the new £35million development last August.
The firm’s proposals include 16 one-bedroom properties, 62 two-bedrooms, 159 three-bedrooms and 96 four-bedroom houses, stretching from Aberdeen Energy Park down towards part of the Gordon Barracks.
Six-month unfair dismissal right to begin from 2027
The government will commit to bringing in enhanced protections against unfair dismissal from the start of 2027, after watering down its plans last week.
Labour ministers agreed to introduce the right to make a claim after six months in a job instead of on day one, after a backlash from business groups.
This new qualifying period would still be shorter than the current two years.
Ireland among countries boycotting Eurovision after Israel allowed to compete
Ireland, Spain, the Netherlands and Slovenia will boycott the 2026 Eurovision Song Contest, after Israel was allowed to compete.
They were among a number of countries who had called for Israel to be excluded over the war in Gaza, as well as accusations of unfair voting practices.
Spanish broadcaster RTVE led calls for a secret ballot on the issue at a meeting in Geneva. It said organisers denied that request - a decision that "increased [our] distrust of the festival's organisation".
