Fitness duo want new Edge Performance gym to be Aberdeen’s Hyrox hub

Two fitness fanatics want their new gym to be the go-to place for Hyrox training in Aberdeen as they aim to build an inclusive fitness community.

Located on Jesmond Drive in Bridge of Don, Edge Performance is the brainchild of Aaron Cox and Victoria Hughes.

Aaron, originally from Westhill, and Victoria, from Anglesey, are fitness enthusiasts who came up with the idea while participating at a Hyrox event in Stockholm.

Poundland struggles to fill shelves as suppliers spooked by sale

Poundland is struggling to replenish its shelves after several major suppliers, including Procter & Gamble and Nestlé, tightened credit lines and payment windows amid uncertainty over the retailer’s future.

The discount chain, which runs around 800 stores across the UK and Ireland and employs 16,000 people, was sold last month for £1 to Boston-based restructuring firm Gordon Brothers. The sale marked an exit from the UK for Pepco Group, its Warsaw-listed owner since 2016.

A proposed restructuring plan by its new owners involving 68 store closures and rent reductions on dozens more is understood to have spooked suppliers.

Four arrested in connection with M&S and Co-op cyber-attacks

Four people have been arrested by police investigating the cyber-attacks that have caused havoc at M&S and the Co-op.

The National Crime Agency (NCA) says a 20-year-old woman was arrested in Staffordshire, and three males - aged between 17 and 19 - were detained in London and the West Midlands.

They were apprehended on suspicion of Computer Misuse Act offences, blackmail, money laundering and participating in the activities of an organised crime group.

Meta lures Apple AI expert with $200m pay offer

Meta has agreed a compensation package of more than $200 million to poach a former Apple engineer for its “superintelligence” team, according to a media report.

The owner of Facebook and WhatsApp has been luring top artificial intelligence talent from rival companies with huge salaries as it attempts to get ahead in the AI race.

Ruoming Pang, who ran Apple’s AI models team, was hired with a pay package in the hundreds of millions over a multi-year period, Bloomberg reported.

Glasgow Airport strikes to go ahead at end of July

About 100 workers at Glasgow Airport are set to go on strike for 48 hours in a dispute over pay.

Unite the union said its members, which include airside support officers, engineers and managers, plan to walk out between 06:00 on 24 July and 05:59 on 26 July.

The industrial action comes during the traditional Glasgow Fair fortnight and the airport's busy summer months.
